Tuesday’s Asheville Citizen reported that Trooper Joe Waldrop's transfer to Polk County lasted less than half a day as he was back in McDowell County. Waldrop has served 13 of his 17 years with the patrol in McDowell and thousands had signed petitions asking Gov. Jim Hunt to allow him to remain in the district. During World War II, Mr. Continued On Back Page WEDNESDAY, FEB. 3,1982 Man Stabbed James Otis Suber of Tryon was stabbed in the left chest with a steak knife Monday at 10:30 p.m. Tryon Police Chief Jerry Ross said that he was stabbed at the home of Margie Vernon on E. Howard St. Chief Ross said that Ollie Belle Whitesides of Tryon was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injuries. Tuesday morning Suber was reported in fair condition at St. Luke's Hospital. Walker of White oak Farm, Mill Spring has filed for Polk County Commissioner subject to the Republican Primary.
